Artificial Reef and Wrecks

AP Marine has invested substantially in training its scientific personnel in the subjects of artificial reefs and wrecks (as artificial reefs). Extensive training, research and survey work regarding artificial reefs and wrecks has been carried out in 2009 and 2010.  Acquiring knowhow and training from the Fisheries Research Institute in Kavala, Greece, AP Marine has gained unique scientific knowhow regarding artificial reef and experiences in the eastern Mediterannean. Site location criteria are utilised and surveys are undertaken to assess the potential of areas for artificial reef siting which include sediment criteria, visual sensus, macrofauna and experimental fishing methods.

In 2009 AP Marine carried out the first study in Cyprus regarding new site selection for a wreck to be situated for recreational diving purposes. There is strong evidence that situating artificial structures in the correct manner and location will greatly benefit the marine environment in Cyprus as well as adding to the local diving economy.
